SHIROMI SAMARAKOON

Shiromi Samarakoon is a mature youth activist who has won an international recognition for anchored her work within the Commonwealth countries.  She is an arbitrator of the Commonwealth Youth Council, deputy secretary of Sri Lanka Youth Parliament Alumni Association and a co-founder of the Connecting Global Citizens organisation. Shiromi is an assistant manager of the schools programme of the British Council Sri Lanka by profession.

During her exemplary journey of international youth work, Shiromi made a milestone by being the Representative of Special Interest Group of the First Commonwealth Youth Council and her work was recognised nationally as a youth parliamentarian of the Second Sri Lanka Youth Parliament and as a co-founder and the former secretary of Sri Lanka Cricket Association for Physically Challenged. In recognition of her massive work on youth development, Shiromi became a runner up of the Queen’s Young Leaders’ Award granted by the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Trust and the Royal Commonwealth Society. Later on she became a mentor of the same programme.

Shiromi is a graduate from the University of Colombo and currently she is reading for her Master degree in Public Administration and a post graduate diploma in International Diplomacy and World Affairs.
